Lux

A traditional photographic enlarger reimagined for the digital age.

Lux was produced as my final year project at Loughborough University. This involved going into extensive detail on all aspects of the design process such as designing and costing for mass production, shipping estimates, estimated sales numbers, materials and branding.

Introducing Lux, the photographic enlarger that aids the revival of analogue photography and its related processes in an increasingly digital age.

I took this opportunity to really improve my skills in branding and logo design. Using illustrator I was able to come up with a logo and brand that not only covered the product I had designed but also gave scope to design more products under the same strong company name.

A large amount of detailed concept sketching was undertaken to explore form and features. This was informed from in depth market research produced over the first semester of my final year at university. This included primary research taken from websites, videos and magazines and a combination of interviews and questionnaires.

Lux was prototyped entirely by myself in the workshops within Loughborough. I really excel on the "hands on" making aspect of design and find it helps inform my concepts in a profound way that sketching alone cannot achieve.  Through my time at Loughborough I have been able to familiarise myself  with a range of prototyping skills from accurate machining and fabrication to CNC processes and 3D printing.
