Hello, I'm Jay Powell

I’m an award-winning designer based in Lewes, East Sussex, working at the intersection of art and technical design. As a Design Project Manager at bespoke kitchen and furniture maker Inglis Hall, I lead complex residential projects from initial concept through to manufacture and on-site installation, ensuring that ambitious ideas are translated into precise, buildable realities.

I specialise in layered briefs that require both creative sensitivity and technical control. My strength lies in bridging vision and execution: developing clear design intent, producing detailed manufacturing information, coordinating with makers and contractors, and managing budgets, timelines, and client relationships with confidence. I translate design intent into practical, well-considered outcomes, balancing refinement with technical clarity at every stage.

Influenced by nature, culture, materials, colour, and the mechanics of how things are made, I’m committed to continual learning and to the value of transferable skills across disciplines. As Miyamoto Musashi wrote, “If you know the way broadly you will see it in everything.”
